Asphalt Millings: what the industry says

The Federal Highway Administration describes properly crushed and screened reclaimed asphalt pavement, the material sold as millings, as well-graded aggregate coated by asphalt cement, and notes a milling machine can remove up to 2 inches of pavement in a single pass.

FHWA also cautions that its quality varies with the pavement it came from, and that on its own it may have a somewhat lower bearing capacity than conventional aggregate base. The National Asphalt Pavement Association notes asphalt is 100% recyclable.
